Therapy for Anxiety

wave of for anxiety

We are biologically wired to feel afraid of certain situations or objects, therefore we naturally feel anxious in anticipation of those stimuli. Both fear and anxiety are adaptive emotions and crucial to our survival and well-being. Anxiety becomes problematic when our fear is excessive or out of proportion.

I view anxiety disorders through a biopsychosocial lens, such that our biological make up interacts with our environment and life experiences to determine how we respond to fear stimuli. Though the sensations, thoughts, and emotions associated with anxiety tend to feel quite unpleasant and sometimes scary, research shows that short-term psychotherapy can be effective in treating excessive anxiety.
